Bobcats stumble late in loss
By Scott Loftis
The Berryville Bobcats and the Gravette Lions were locked in a close game for four quarters Friday night on the Lions’ home court, and both teams had opportunities to take control.
In the end, it was Gravette that took advantage of those opportunities and beat Berryville 52-47.
Gravette (11-11, 3-6 4A-1) outscored the Bobcats 20-14 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
“It was a back-and-forth game,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said. “It was a one- or two-possession game most of the way.”
Berryville (9-14, 2-6) led at each break — 9-5 after one quarter, 24-22 at halftime and 33-32 after three quarters — but the Bobcats couldn’t get the baskets they needed to extend their advantage.
“We missed the opportunity a few times through the course of the game,” Compton said. “We’d miss a shot, or turn it over. Just little things.”
Midway through the fourth quarter, Gravette made three-pointers on consecutive possessions to take the lead.
“That was really the difference,” Compton said.
From there, the Lions converted their free throws in the final minutes to preserve the victory.
Senior point guard Zakk Webb led Berryville with 11 points. Junior Trenton Hutchison added nine, all on three-pointers.
