Lady Bobcats bounce back with victory
By Scott Loftis
If anyone questioned how the Berryville Lady Bobcats would bounce back from their first loss of the season, they obviously don’t know much about the Lady Bobcats.
Back on the court four days later, Berryville overpowered Prairie Grove 50-18 Tuesday night at Bobcat Arena.
Senior forward Hannah Morrell scored 12 points to lead Berryville (21-1, 6-1 4A-1), which was coming off a three-point road loss to Pea Ridge on Jan. 18. Senior forward Kelcee Hopper added 11 and junior guard Lexy Anderson scored 10.
The Lady Bobcats held Prairie Grove (5-11, 0-7) to nine points in each half.
“We needed a game,” Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said. “We left a bad taste in our mouth on Friday. It was good to get back out there.”
The loss at Pea Ridge snapped a 32-game regular-season winning streak for the Lady Bobcats, who have an overall record of 53-4 over the past two seasons. One of those four losses came to Gravette, which beat Berryville in the 2018 district tournament. The Lady Bobcats will travel to Gravette on Friday, and Cornelison said the loss to the Lady Lions provides some extra motivation for his team.
“Oh yeah,” he said. “That’s definitely something they remember, and if they’ve forgotten, I remind them of it.”
Berryville, Harrison and Farmington are tied for the conference lead at 6-1, one game ahead of Pea Ridge. The Lady Bobcats have beaten both Harrison and Farmington and will host Harrison in a rematch on Tuesday night.
Cornelison acknowledged that the Lady Bobcats are keeping an eye on how the other conference teams are faring.
“You definitely pay attention to it,” he said. “To say you don’t would be a lie.”
