Compton not pleased with Bobcats' effort
By Scott Loftis
The Berryville Bobcats have had an up-and-down season, pulling out some close victories and enduring some down-to-the-wire losses.
The one constant had been the Bobcats’ effort. Win or lose, coach Brent Compton’s team could be counted on to play hard every night.
But Compton said that wasn’t the case on Tuesday as Prairie Grove beat Berryville 51-32 at Bobcat Arena.
“We did not show up focused and ready to go, for whatever reason,” Compton said. “We did not play with the intensity and effort that we play with in our program. … It was the worst we’ve played all season. I don’t know why.”
Prairie Grove (6-10, 3-4 4A-1) led 26-21 at halftime but held Berryville (9-13, 2-5) to 11 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Landon Chester led the Bobcats with nine points.
After two days of turning up the intensity in practice, Compton hopes to see the Bobcats play with more effort on Friday when they travel to Gravette.
“It’s their homecoming game, so it will be packed to the rafters,” Compton said. “It’ll be a tough environment.”
