Lady Leopards unbeaten in conference
The Alpena Lady Leopards kept their conference record spotless on Monday, rolling to a 75-48 victory at Lead Hill.
Monday’s victory followed two conference wins last week for the Lady Leopards.
On Tuesday, Jan. 15, Alpena defeated visiting Deer 72-30. Sophomore forward Amelya Cook scored 13 of her 18 points in the first half. Sophomore guard Alex Hill added 10 points for the Lady Leopards.
On Friday, Jan. 18, the Lady Leopards traveled to Jasper and won 72-68 in overtime. Hill scored 27 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter and five more in overtime as Alpena fought back from a 48-40 deficit at the end of the third quarter. Senior forward Abby Dean added 23 points and senior forward Maddy Milburn scored 12 for the Lady Leopards.
Alpena (22-4, 9-0 1A-1) hosted The New School on Thursday.
Senior Corey Holsted scored 18 points to lead four Alpena players in double figures as the Leopards defeated Lead Hill 59-52 Tuesday.
Senior Braylee Bell added 11 points and seniors Jonathan Stone and Garrett Cook added 10 apiece for Alpena (15-12, 5-4 1A-1), which led 33-20 at halftime.
The Leopards split two games last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, Holsted scored 32 points and Stone added 22 in a 76-71 home victory over Deer. On Friday, Jan. 18, Alpena lost 56-47 at Jasper. Stone had 27 points, including four three-pointers, and Holsted added 12.
