The Berryville Bobcats hosted the Bobcat Winter Blowout on Saturday, and it was an impressive showing for the home team.

Berryville finished third among 11 teams overall — trailing only Springdale Har-Ber and Bishop Kelley of Tulsa, Okla. The Bobcats finished ahead of Shiloh Christian, Rogers and Mountain Home, among others.

“I thought we had a good tournament,” Berryville coach Derrek Aynes said. “We had a lot of people come out to support us. We wrestled well.”

Berryville junior Colton Record (29-1) won two matches by pin and two by decision on the way to the 285-pound championship. Senior Christian Lemus (30-7) won first place at 182 pounds, winning four matches by pin. Freshman Caleb Record (27-6) took the 106-pound championship, winning two matches by decision.

Junior Brett Parsons (25-12) took third place at 145 pounds. Parsons won one match by pin and three by decision. Isaac Weston (10-14) was third at 132 pounds. Dominic Henry (22-14) took third place at 120 pounds. He won two matches by pin.

Xavier Hand (15-8) finished fourth at 285 pounds. He won one match by decision.

Damian Helmlinger (12-24) was fourth at 195 pounds, winning one match by pin.

Carlos Escobar (20-17) took fifth place at 152 pounds, winning one match by pin. Cesar Martinez (19-12) was fifth at 138 pounds, winning two matches by pin. Dylan Sperduto (18-19) finished fifth at 120 pounds.

Aynes said the Bobcats are settling into their weight classes and building toward the state championships, to be held Feb. 22-23 in Little Rock.

“We’re slowly getting there,” Aynes said.
