Berryville wrestlers take 2nd at Pulaski Academy tournament
Led by a pair of first-place individual finishes, the Berryville Bobcats finished second overall and first among Class 4A teams at the Pulaski Academy Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday in Little Rock.
Berryville senior Christian Lemus took first place at 182 pounds, defeating three opponents by pin before winning the championship match by decision. Lemus is 23-6 this season.
Junior Colton Record improved his season record to 22-1 by winning the 285-pound title. Record won two matches by pin, then took the title with a technical pin.
Berryville junior Brett Parsons (20-9) took second place at 145 pounds. He won two matches by pin and one in overtime before losing by pin in the first-place match.
Freshman Caleb Record (24-6) also finished second. Wrestling in the 106-pound class, Record won four matches, all by pin.
Berryville’s Dominic Henry, Isaac Weston Cesar Martinez and Devon Hand placed fourth at 113, 132, 138 and 285 pounds, respectively, and teammate Dylan Sperduto took fifth place at 120 pounds.
Hayden Smith finished 12th at 170 pounds. Carlos Escobar placed 13th at 152 pounds.
A total of 21 teams competed.
Berryville will compete in a dual meet Tuesday at Hollister, Mo., before hosting the Bobcat Winter Blowout on Saturday.
