High school basketball fans are in for a treat this week, as the 10th Annual Cornerstone Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament tips off at Berryville’s Bobcat Arena.

The action begins on Thursday and will continue Friday and Saturday. The girls championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, with the boys game following at 7:20 p.m.

The tournament field includes 16 teams — eight each in the boys and girls brackets.

“I think our tournament is something everyone in the area looks forward to,” said Berryville boys coach Brent Compton, who also serves as athletic director and tournament organizer. “We’ve got teams coming from as far away as Hamburg and Monette, Mo. It’s always an excellent tournament.”

The girls bracket is especially enticing. The host team, Berryville, is 13-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A by Maxpreps. The Lady Bobcats will face Hamburg in a first-round game at 6 p.m. Thursday and could be on a collision course for a championship game battle against 12-2 Mountain View — the top-ranked team in Class 3A.

“That could be a great ballgame if they match up,” Compton said.

On the boys side, Compton’s Bobcats will face Pocahontas in a first-round game at 7:20 p.m. Thursday.

Among the teams Compton expects to compete for the boys’ team title are White County Central and Bergman.

“Both those teams are really solid,” Compton said.

Berryville won the boys title in 2017, while Valley Springs won the girls championship.
