Bobcats bounce back strong
By Scott Loftis
The three-point shot was first a curse and then a blessing for the Berryville Bobcats in two games over the weekend.
On Friday, the Huntsville Eagles made nine three-point baskets and beat the visiting Bobcats 65-48 in the 4A-1 conference opener for both teams.
On Saturday, however, it was Berryville that thrived behind the three-point line as the Bobcats made 11 three-pointers in an 81-67 victory over Reeds Spring, Mo., at North Arkansas College in Harrison.
In the loss to Huntsville, Berryville trailed 20-15 at the end of the first quarter and 38-32 at halftime. Trenton Hutchison led the Bobcats with 14 points, including four three-pointers.
Against Reeds Spring on Saturday, the Bobcats flipped the script. Berryville made four three-pointers in the first quarter and five in the second to take a 43-36 halftime lead. Berryville stretched its lead to 62-49 at the end of the third quarter and went on to avenge a four-point loss to Reeds Spring two weeks earlier in a tournament at Forsyth, Mo.
Sophomore guard Landon Chester led the long-range barrage for Berryville, making all five of his three-pointers in a 23-point first half. Chester finished with 32 points. Junior forward Kelton Davidson added 17 points for the Bobcats, who also got 11 points from senior guard Kooper Logan and 10 from senior guard Zakk Webb in snapping a seven-game losing streak.
Berryville (4-7, 0-1 4A-1) will host Hollister, Mo., in a nonconference game on Tuesday before Gentry comes to Bobcat Arena for a conference game Friday night.
