The Berryville wrestling team hosted a dual meet on Tuesday, competing against Gentry, Russellville and Hollister, Mo.

Berryville defeated Gentry 57-18 and Hollister 66-18, but lost to Class 7A Russellville 54-27.

“We did pretty well,” Berryville coach Derrek Aynes said. “We beat both Hollister and Gentry pretty handily and we competed with Russellville in a lot of spots.”

Caleb Record and Christian Lemus each won three matches by pin for the Bobcats. Record competed at 106 pounds, while Lemus won two matches at 195 pounds and a third competing in the 220-pound class. Isaac Weston won two matches by pin at 132 pounds. Cesar Martinez won one match by pin at 138 pounds and another at 145. Carlos Escobar had one victory by pin at 160 pounds, Damian Helmlinger won one match by pin at 182 pounds, Colton Record won one match by pin at 285 pounds and Brett Parsons won a match by decision at 152 pounds.

Both Colton Record and Parsons were state runners-up last season. Parsons competed at 138 pounds last season and is adjusting to a higher weight class, Aynes said, while Colton Record has added 15 pounds and gotten much stronger.

“Colton Record has really taken a step forward,” Aynes said. “He has gotten a lot better.”

The Bobcats will compete Friday and Saturday in the Sam Ginn Hornet Swarm at Maumelle High School. The tournament field includes 23 teams.
