GF board votes to increase substitute pay
The Green Forest School Board voted Monday to increase the wage for substitute teachers from $60 per day to $70 per day.
Superintendent Matt Summers said the board also increased hourly wages for classified employees such as bus drivers and custodians as well to be compliant with the new minimum wage of $9.25 per hour.
The board voted to approve the purchase of a handicap bus for $64,000.
“We had a handicap bus fail,” Summers said, “and it will cost more to fix it than the value of the bus. The board was going to buy a new one in July anyway, so we found a 2018 handicap passenger bus.”
He continued, “The board wanted to pay 10 percent down and pay the remainder in July. We’ve done that before, and we checked with Anstaff Bank to get a better rate. We will have a 4.275 interest rate through Anstaff, and the total purchase price of the bus will be paid in July.”
The board voted to hold the annual 2019 school election on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
The board also voted to approve the hires of Francisca Bustamante as custodian, Jedidiah Blocker as transportation mechanic, David Childers as bus driver, Amy Hudson as speech pathologist and Roberta Sims as special education paraprofessional.
The board’s next regular meeting in scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21, in the high school library.
