Greenland turns back Green Forest girls

Greenland defeated Green Forest 63-41 Saturday in the third-place game of the Queens of the Court Tournament at the Grim Gym in Green Forest.
The Lady Pirates took control with a 13-2 run to close the first quarter and led 29-11 at halftime.
Green Forest got within 14 points when senior guard Ashley Farrar scored five consecutive points on a baseline drive and a three-pointer from the top of the key to cut the Lady Pirates’ lead to 34-20 with 5:20 remaining in the third quarter.
After an 8-2 Greenland run, Farrar made another three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 42-25 with 2:42 left in the quarter.
Greenland’s Fiona Wilson answered with a pair of three-pointers that extended the lead to 23 points, at 48-25 with 55 seconds left in the quarter.
The Lady Pirates led at least by 21 points throughout the fourth quarter.
Farrar, who scored 27 points in a season-opening win over Shiloh Christian in the first round of the tournament and then poured in 36 points against Pea Ridge in a 65-53 second-round loss, sat for much of the first half against Greenland after drawing her second foul with 6:29 remaining in the first quarter. She scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half.
Sophomore Maddie Youngblood scored nine points for the Lady Tigers (1-2), including a three-pointer.
Green Forest travels to Elkins on Tuesday before hosting Deer on Friday. The Lady Tigers get an 11-day break after that before returning with a game at Marshall on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
