Junior high football: Strong running attack powers Berryville

Friday, November 2, 2018

Brett Mingo and Jaeden Tanksley each had productive nights running the ball as the Berryville Bobcats defeated Gravette 14-6 in junior high action last Thursday.

Mingo ran for 89 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and Tanksley added 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes for Berryville, which will play at Gravette on Thursday in the conference playoffs.

Pea Ridge 14, Green Forest 6

Green Forest took a 6-0 lead early but couldnít hold on in a 14-6 loss to Pea Ridge on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Pea Ridge used a big gain on a reverse play to set up a touchdown and then added a two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead at halftime. The Blackhawks took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove for their second touchdown of the game.

A holding penalty wiped out a big gain that would have given the Tigers a first down at the Pea Ridge 31, spoiling Green Forestís best scoring opportunity of the second half.

The loss means Green Forest will be a No. 3 seed in the conference playoffs. The Tigers will travel to Elkins on Thursday.
