Coach dismissed: Bishop fired as Green Forest AD, football coach

Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Bobby Bishop has been dismissed as the athletic director and head football coach at Green Forest High School, Superintendent Matt Summers confirmed.

Summers said Trista Killingsworth will serve as interim athletic director and Ryan Whetham will be the interim head coach for the high school football team.

Summers said he could not comment on the circumstances surrounding Bishop’s dismissal.

“At this time, I can’t speak to any personnel matters,” he said.

Bishop also declined to comment, but did say he will appeal the decision within 30 days of his dismissal, which occurred on Oct. 4.

Bishop, a 1978 Green Forest graduate, had been the Tigers’ head coach since 2015. Green Forest compiled a record of 8-27 in 35 games under Bishop.

While neither Summers nor Bishop would discuss the reasons for Bishop’s firing, one parent of a Green Forest player said he asked for a meeting with Bishop after an alleged altercation involving the coach after the Tigers lost 58-0 on their home field to Shiloh Christian on Sept. 28.

Shane Gilliam said he was not present for the game but was told that Bishop mentioned his name during an altercation with another parent, whom he did not identify.

Gilliam said he requested a meeting with Bishop. He did not say whether such a meeting occurred.
