Berryville senior Rusty Colbert shot a 98 at the Class 4A state golf tournament Wednesday at Sage Meadows Golf Course in Jonesboro.

Colbert’s score was 26 over par and tied for 50th place. Devyn Peppas of Valley View won the tournament with a 3-under 69.

“I thought Rusty competed really well,” Berryville coach Brett Compton said. “He got second in his grouping. I really thought he hit the ball well.”

The Sage Meadows course is tough, Compton said.

“A lot of trouble with sand and water,” he said. “It doesn’t take much there to really elevate your score.”

All in all, Compton said it was a nice way for Colbert to close his high school golf career.

“He got to play in the state tournament last year because we made it as a team,” Compton said. “But to make it as an individual your senior year, that’s a nice way to go out.”
