Flames engulf Grandview house; no one inside
Local fire departments responded Thursday morning to a house fire in Grandview.
Berryville Fire Chief Shannon Chester said the Berryville Fire Department was notified of a house fire on County Road 219 in Grandview at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. He said the Eureka Springs Fire Department responded to assist with the fire.
“One of our guys was in the area with his personal truck. We sent two of our fire trucks over,” Chester said, “and Eureka Springs sent two trucks and manpower.”
The house was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters’ arrival, he said, but fortunately no one was inside.
“Not much is known for sure at this time. We’re still gathering information,” he said. “We think someone was in the process of moving because there was a lot of stuff in the house.”
Chester said the department is still working to verify the owner of the house and to determine the cause of the fire.
“Flames were blowing out the front of the house when we arrived,” he said. “It took a while to put it out. When you can’t go inside a house, it’s hard to fight the fire.”
Chester said it took the Berryville and Eureka Springs fire departments close to an hour to get the fire under control and extinguished. Firefighters were called back to the scene Thursday afternoon after the fire rekindled.
