William Besse, 92, of Alpena, AR , formerly of Port Deposit, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was born August 12, 1926 in Denoya, OK, the son of Henry Oliver and Alta May Frances (Parton) Besse.
On March 30, 1953 he married the love of his life, Sumiko Tanno. William was a U.S. Army Veteran and had served in World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. During his 20 year military career he received a number of Medals including a Bronze Star Medal. After retiring from the military he enjoyed working as a mechanic and loved tinkering on cars, fishing and gardening. He had a green thumb and was known for growing the best strawberries around. Above all, William truly loved each and every member of his family and he cherished any opportunity he had to spend time with them. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church in Green Forest and had been an active member of Stepney Faith Center in Aberdeen, Maryland.
He is survived by his devoted wife Sumiko Besse of the home, son, Henry Dale Besse and wife Tondra of Memphis, TN, daughters, Janice Johnson and husband Ray of Green Forest, Pattie Tanno and husband Dominic Philippon of Harrison, Hallie Neville and husband Tom of Wasilla, AK, grandsons, Joshua Jones, Bill Besse, Jason Besse, James Rowland, Jonathan Besse and Shea Neville, granddaughters, Virginia Morris, Emily Tanno-Philippon and Tabitha Besse as well as 4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harold Jones, Ruth Jones Riddle, Glen Besse, Dorothy McKim and Bob Besse.
Celebration Of Life Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, September 21, 2018 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Pastor Jason Besse officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00. Private family interment in Auman Cemetery at a later date.
