Illinois woman dies in wreck on 62W

The passenger on a motorcycle was killed and the driver was injured in an accident Tuesday afternoon on Highway 62 west of Eureka Springs, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

Steve Murfin, 73, was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday when he failed to negotiate a curve and the motorcycle ran off the road and down an embankment the report says. Kathy Murfin, 64, a passenger on the motorcycle was killed. Steve Murfin was injured and transported to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo. No details on his condition were available.

The ASP report lists the Murfins as being from Galesburg, but does not list a state. According to Facebook, the Murfins are from Galesburg, Ill.

A portion of Highway 62 was closed for approximately an hour after the accident.

The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the accident, according to the ASP report.

Kathy Murfin was the 336th person to die in an Arkansas traffic accident this year.
