BV loses first match of year
The Berryville Lady Bobcats dropped their first match of the season on Tuesday, as the Blue Eye, Mo. Lady Bulldogs defeated Berryville, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18.
"Not having Kelcee Hopper hurts us a little bit," Berryville coach Kristin Whetham said. "She is a big girl in the middle who can get some blocks. They have a really good outside hitter who got whatever she wanted because we didn't have anybody up there to get a touch on her ball. Not having Kelcee up there to block hurt."
Whetham said the Lady Bobcats were never able to get in a rhythm Tuesday evening.
"We never did get on a roll," Whetham said. "We would score here or there, but then we would make a few errors. We just couldn't keep it going."
After the first-set loss, Whetham made an adjustment to help Berryville win the second set, but in the end it wasn't enough to win the match.
"I moved my two outside hitters, Taylor Swofford and Lauren Compton to the right side," Whetham said. "I did that to help block Kohnnar (Patton), their best outside hitter. That seemed to throw her off a little bit. That helped us in the second set, but in the third set we lost momentum and just couldn't get it back."
Whetham hopes the Lady Bobcats can learn from this loss.
"We found out some areas that we need to work on defensively," Whetham said. "We are just going to take that moving forward with those defensive errors we had and make adjustments and focus on that in practice. That way when we get to Harrison next week, and Shiloh as well, we will be ready for those two matches because those are two big games for us."
On Thursday, Berryville played at Gentry.
