New appointments: Mercy Berryville adds board members
BERRYVILLE – Mercy Hospital Berryville has added two members to its 12-member board.
Richard Harp and Deretha Walker will serve a three-year term with the option of a second three-year term. Their first meeting as board members will be Thursday, July 26.
Harp began a career in insurance in Berryville in 1958 and serves as the primary agent for Shelter Insurance in Berryville, along with his wife, Mary Lou. An active Rotary member, Harp has also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Berryville Fire Department. He served for six years as the city’s recorder and for six years as alderman.
Harp was a driving force in establishing Carroll General Hospital in Berryville in 1969 and served on the board for many years, including during the time when the hospital became Mercy Hospital Berryville in 2012.
Deretha Walker has worked in banking for 37 years, including 17 as the president of Equity Bank in Berryville. She has held many community positions, including serving on the Berryville School Board and Berryville City Council. Previously, she served on the boards of Mercy Home Health and Hospice-Berryville and the Carroll County Community Foundation.
Walker is a member of Antioch Church. She and her husband, Todd, live in Berryville.
