Lavonne St. Clair, age 81,of Eureka Springs, passed from this life on July 24 at Northwest Hospital in Springdale after a brief illness. Lavonne was a well-known figure around Carroll County and moved to this area from South Dakota after her retirement from K-Mart. She loved the town and the people here, and will be remembered for an acerbic wit that belied a heart of gold. She was involved in many local organizations, from the Holiday Island Singers to the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank in Berryville. She supported and attended as many of local activities as she could. She adored her family, including her furry ones.

Lavonne was often seen scooting around town in her little red Kia, with the “God Is My Co-Pilot” license plate. She was a woman of faith, and a loyal member of the Community of Christ Church in Berryville, where she gave her all, from producing the Christmas program to taking someone on their bucket-list trip to see the ocean. Hers was a constant presence in the pew each Sunday, and she will be sorely missed.

Lavonne is survived by her children, Lisa Oakley (David), Lauri Stevens, Lee St. Clair (Tina), Leslie Bultena (Roger), her siblings, Elinor Kelly (Owen), Opal (Jim), Norma (dick), 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, along with her church family and an army of friends who will miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ethel Backous, brothers Arnold Murray and Richard Backous, and son, Leonard St. Clair.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 29 at the Community of Christ Church, 503 Orchard Dr. in Berryville at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community of Christ Peace Garden.
