Lady Bobcats overcoming adversity
The Berryville Lady Bobcat basketball team has made three consecutive trips to the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament. They are hoping to improve on that next season by making it to the championship game and having a chance to win the title.
"So far this offseason, we have played two league nights at Berryville," Lady Bobcat coach Daniel Cornelison said. "We played pretty well in those. We just got back from AAO and played five games down there. We did really well down there. On Thursday, we are going to Green Forest and next week we are going to Pulaski Academy in Little Rock for three days. And then back to Green Forest and Berryville before a little break."
Lexy Anderson suffered an injury last week and is expected to be back right around the time the season begins. Cornelison said he is proud of how the girls have responded in her absence, though.
"We have had to make some pretty major adjustments," Cornelison said. "But all in all, it's been pretty good. The girls have played well and stepped up their roles because it's a major loss for us."
Cornelison expects to see his team to play well during this time.
"We have a number of good players besides Lexy, which is a positive," Cornelison said. "We have kids who have a lot of experience. But our younger kids are going to have to step up. Lauren Compton, Lilli Compton, Abby Thurman, Alexis Steele, Cecilia Doss. Basically anybody coming off our bench. We are looking for people to step up and fill that role."
