GF gets back on the winning track
The Green Forest Tigers got back in the win column on Thursday by winning at Marshall, 19-1. The Tigers scored three of their runs in the top of the first, but added 16 in the third inning to seal the game.
With the bases loaded in the top of the first, Jacob McMahan scored on a fielder's choice. Dakota Grigg went on to score on a Marshall error and Trey Curbow scored on a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless second inning, Green Forest put the game out of reach in the top of the third.
Hayden Bailey scored on a wild pitch and Grigg scored on a Marshall error. Curbow scored on Reiley Gordon's single, making the score 6-1. Jackson Tibbets hit a line drive to center, which scored Hayden Alvard and Gordon. Anthony Castillo's single scored Tibbets and a McMahan grounder scored Ryan Logan, giving Green Forest a 10-1 lead.
Hayden Bailey's single scored Anthony Castillo and Grigg's fly ball to right scored McMahan. Bailey scored on an error, giving Green Forest a 13-1 lead. Gordon's pop fly scored Grigg and Logan's single scored Curbow. Castillo hit a grand slam, scoring Gordon, Tibbets and Logan. That gave Green Forest a 19-1 lead.
Castillo had five RBIs and three hits, while Gordon had three RBIs and two hits.
Greenland 20, Green Forest 5
As well as things went for the Tigers in Thursday's win against Marshall, that is how badly things went in Friday's home loss to Greenland. Green Forest faced a 19-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the third inning. Castillo scored on a wild pitch and Bailey scored on a Greenland error.
The Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Curbow's fly ball to center field scored Bailey and Grigg. Gordon's line drive to center scored Curbow. Curbow finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Gordon had a hit and an RBI.
On Tuesday, Green Forest will host Marshall. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
