The Berryville Lady Bobcat softball team has gotten off to a 2-0 start this year by defeating Springdale on Thursday and Flippin on Friday.

Berryville 11, Springdale 8: Berryville got off to a great start in Thursday's game at Springdale by putting up four runs in the top of the first inning. LoraGrace Hill got the first base hit of the season and that was followed with a single by Anna Caroline Stone. A Lexi Woods single to right scored Taylor Kelley and Hill. Woods scored by stealing home and Hayley Rivett scored on a passed ball.

"We played pretty well," Berryville coach Josh Hatfield said. "Defensively, we played pretty well. We had two errors, but they were errors with runners on base, so they were costly errors for us. All in all, we played pretty well defensively."

After giving up a run in the bottom half of the inning, the Lady Bobcats added another run in the top of the second when Woods singled on a grounder to left, which scored Hill. Stone's double in the top of the fourth scored Hill and Stone scored on a fielder's choice later in the inning, making it 7-1. Springdale added three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Stone's double in the top of the fifth scored Kate Powell, giving Berryville an 8-4 lead. Kelley's ground ball to the shortstop in the top of the sixth scored Maleah Bryant and Rivett, extending the Berryville lead to 10-4. Berryville gave up four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Georgia Belle Patterson was walked in the top of the seventh and that scored Stone, giving the Lady Bobcats an 11-8 lead. Springdale was never able to get in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh. Hatfield was glad to see the Lady Bobcats close that game out.

"I like the fight they showed," Hatfield said. "They have good chemistry and they get along pretty well. You can tell we have learned from last year and we continue to learn every game we go out. That's good to see, we just hope to get better every game we go out. That's what we are striving for."

Hill scored three runs, while Rivett had two. Woods had three RBIs, while Kelley and Stone each had two.

Berryville 19, Flippin 3

Berryville continued to swing the bat well in Friday's game at Flippin. After the Lady Bobcats scored seven runs in the first two innings, Powell doubled to left in the top of the third, which scored Eve Linz and Bryant. Rylea Wright's grounder scored Powell to give Berryville a 10-2 lead going into the fourth inning. Sonny Tibbets and Woods scored on wild pitches in the top of the fourth and Karlea Standlee singled to right, which scored Bryant to give Berryville a 13-2 lead. Kelley's ground ball to second base scored Standlee and Stone's double to left scored Wright, Kelley and Hill. Stone scored on a Woods double and a Tibbets grounder to third scored Woods. Flippin was unable to score in the bottom of the fourth, ending the game.

"It's good to get on the winning side and just get out there and play," Hatfield said. "We executed pretty well and it was good to see us get out there and playing right."

Stone had three RBIs and Powell had two, while Woods scored three runs. The Lady Bobcats host Bergman on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
