Lady Bobcats win in Missouri
Berryville had a bye in its conference schedule on Friday, but the Lady Bobcats decided to play a nonconference game at Crane, Mo. Berryville won, 57-45.
"I thought everybody played pretty well," Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said. "All the girls came off the bench and played really well for us. They gave us great minutes. I thought it was a really good team effort against a pretty good team."
Berryville (24-1) started strong early, as the Lady Bobcats led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. Cornelison said the Lady Pirates created a matchup problem for his team in the paint, but he said Hannah Morrell and Kelcee Hopper were both up for the challenge.
"Our two post players went up against two legitimate post players and did really well against them," Cornelison said. "Hannah had 16 points and really played well for us. It was nice having to see her go against two bigs and do really well. We did a nice job of getting it to her when she was open and she did a nice job of finishing. I think she took that as a challenge."
Berryville extended its lead to 34-24 at halftime. Cornelison said this out-of-state game will benefit the Lady Bobcats.
"It was a good trip for us because it's always good to see someone that you don't play all the time and someone that was going to push us," Cornelison said.
Lexy Anderson led the Lady Bobcats with 20 points, while Morrell had 16 and Baylea Smith had 12. Berryville was 21 of 24 from the free-throw line.
Berryville extended its lead to 21 points in the second half. Cornelison said it's important the Lady Bobcats continue to play well as the regular season nears an end.
"If we will guard and we will play hard, then we will have a chance every night," Cornelison said. "That's what we did Friday night and we have had three games in a row where we have really defended pretty well. When you defend, good things are going to happen."
On Tuesday, Berryville travels to Huntsville. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
