Bobcats finish sixth at Pulaski Academy

The Berryville wrestling team competed in the Pulaski Academy wrestling tournament on Saturday. The Bobcats finished sixth as a team and the individual results varied. Dylan Sperduto finished 10th in the 120-pound weight class. Cesar Martinez finished in the 126-pound weight division. Carlos Escobar finished fourth in the 145-pound weight division. Brett Parsons finished sixth in the 152-pound weight division. John Barrios finished fourth in the 160-pound division. Raphael Perez finished 12th in the 170-pound weight division. Christian Lemus finished third in the 182-pound weight division. Colton Record finished fourth in the heavyweight division and Luis Klaus finished ninth.

Coach Derrek Aynes said this was a good learning opportunity for his team.

"I thought we could have done better in a couple of spots, but overall I'm pleased with several guys who finished a lot higher than I thought they would," Aynes said. "I'm pretty pleased with where we came out."

Saturday's tournament was different than what Berryville will see at state.

"At this tournament, they didn't have a seeding meeting so they had to face the first-place guy," Aynes said. "We didn't have a chance to wrestle the second-place guy. It just ended after the semis."

Aynes said there are little things that Berryville can improve on between now and state.

"It's just about being in the right class and not giving up a few bad points," Aynes said. "A couple times it came down to one or two points in the match and we just gave up stuff we shouldn't have."

Berryville only filled seven weight classes at Saturday's tournament.

"We have a couple guys dropping weight, just trying to figure out where they need to be," Aynes said. "As a result, we had a couple of guys in the same class that won't be. We will get Kole Disheroon back and he will probably wrestle at 126. We haven't figured out where we want to put Cesar yet. We want to get them in the right spot. We are just toying with it right now."
