Bobcats set to host regionals
The Berryville Bobcats have been chosen over Lincoln to host the 2018 Class 4A North Regional Basketball tournament. Athletic Director Brent Compton is excited for the town of Berryville to get to hold such a great event.
"We are going to have a lot of people coming in, buying gas, getting food and shopping at the convenience stores," Compton said. "It's great all the way around."
Even more exciting is that if the boys and girls teams get through the district tournament, the Bobcats will get to play on their home court. Compton adds this is a great opportunity to show people how great the Berryville school system is.
"It's an awesome opportunity, not only for our kids because it will give them even more motivation to work harder and put them in the regional tournament, but it's also great for our school district," Compton said. "We are going to do a great job hosting it."
Compton said he looks forward to seeing what the crowd would be like if indeed both Berryville teams get to the regional tournament.
"Our fans are so great," Compton said. "If we can just make it to the regional tournament, our community will show up and show out. It will be a huge advantage to our basketball teams."
The 4A-1 district tournament will take place in Lincoln and the Class 4A state tournament will be held in Brookland. The regional tournament begins on Feb. 21 and runs through Feb. 24. This will be the first time that Berryville has hosted a regional basketball tournament.
The Berryville Bobcats are 13-5 on the season thus far and the Lady Bobcats are 17-1 with their lone loss coming to Pocahontas in the Holiday tournament.
Both teams look to improve upon that record when they take on Huntsville on Friday night for homecoming.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
