Ambulance contract set for signing
The long process of selecting and hiring an ambulance company to provide emergency service in eastern Carroll County is nearing an end.
The Eastern Carroll County Ambulance Commission is expected to sign a two-year service contract with Southern Paramedic Service Inc. during the commission’s next meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the Carroll County Eastern District Courthouse in Berryville.
Southern secured the contract by submitting a bid of $395,000 to provide two ambulances around the clock to respond to emergency calls east of the Kings River. Three other companies also submitted bids for the contract.
ECCAC chairman David Stoppel said the contract has been finalized, correcting some typographical errors that were noted at the commission’s last meeting on Nov. 28.
The commission has been working toward the goal of a signed agreement since all five commissioners were appointed in January of this year. The contract is expected to take effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
“I actually will feel pretty good about it when the first of January rolls around, and we’ve got them in place,” Stoppel said. “That’s when I’ll really feel good about it.”
