Nona Sooter

NONA ELLEN SOOTER, lifelong resident of Berryville was born February 11, 1922 near Oak Grove, Arkansas, daughter of Truman and Ida (Swofford) Sooter. She departed this life November 15, 2017 at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 4 days. She was residing in Cassville, Missouri and passed away at Roaring River Health and Rehab.

In 1956 she went to work for the Charles Nelson family as a nanny and helped care for their children, Sherry, Carla, Andre and Doug. When they were almost grown, she went to live with Charles Nelsonís parents, helped assist with Larry and was his care-giver until he passed away.

Nona attended the Boyd School until 8th grade. She was active in the Boyd Church for many years, taught Sunday School classes and served as Sunday School secretary. In later years she attended Church on the Hill in Berryville, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Howard, Norman and Loren Sooter. She is survived by one sister, Edna Lea Atchley; two sisters-in-law, Betty Sooter and Francis Sooter; several nephews and nieces who loved her very much. She will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with services following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Keith Butler and Les Robinson officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hale Cemetery in Oak Grove under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
