BV council approves 2018 millage rates at special meeting
The Berryville City Council voted at a special meeting Friday to approve Ordinance 1022, establishing millage rates for 2018.
City administrative assistant Jay Lee said Ordinance 1022 amends Chapter 3.10 of the Berryville Municipal Code and sets the millage rates for the calendar year of 2018 as a tax of zero mills for rental property millage and personal property millage. The ordinance also states that a voluntary 1-mill rental property cemetery tax and personal property cemetery tax is levied for the purpose of maintaining the Berryville Memorial Cemetery.
Lee said the council voted to pass the ordinance on all three readings in order to get the millage rates to the county assessor before the October deadline.
The council also voted to approve Ordinance 1021 on all three readings, waiving competitive bidding for the procurement of the equipment and components for a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) Cascade system for the Berryville Fire Department. Lee said the ordinance declares an emergency to exist because the equipment is necessary for public welfare and safety, allowing the council to pass it on all three readings.
Also at the meeting, the council voted to approve the new memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Berryville and the Carroll-Boone Water District and the 2016 audit.
The councilís next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at City Hall.
