Athletes run in biggest event of year
The local cross country teams traveled to Fayetteville on Saturday to compete in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, where they ran against schools from all across the United States. Green Forest's Rafael Rosales finished 21st. Individual results are as follows:
Open Boys: Lockhart High School won, scoring 37 points. Green Forest finished 27th, scoring 770 points, while Eureka Springs finished 53rd, scoring 1,463 points and Berryville finished 56th, scoring 1,628 points. Albert Serrano of Cumby Miller Grove won with a time of 16 minutes and 32 seconds. Rosales finished 21st in 17:27, while teammate Lexington Hilton finished 31st in 17:37 and Eureka Springs' Kayden Eckman finished 97th in 18:28. Green Forest's Ezequiel Calderon finished 120th in 18:41, while Eureka Springs' Dalton Arnold finished 15th in 20:17 and Berryville's Grant Lee finished 356th in 20:25. Green Forest's Tono Mendez finished 384th in 20:35, while Berryville's Austin Escobar finished 440th in 21:07 and Dominic Henry finished 446th in 21:08. Eureka Springs' Garrett Cross finished 448th in 21:09, while Green Forest's David Aguinaga finished 596th in 22:19 and Berryville's Fredric Leroy finished 632nd in 22:40. Green Forest's Eli Gomes finished 635th in 22:42, while teammate Kevin Solorzano finished 723rd in 23:45 and Eureka Springs' Hayden Bullock finished 846th in 27:03. Grant Arnold of Eureka Springs finished 847th in 27:03, while Berryville's Marco Berrios finished 864th in 28:19.
Open Girls: Miller Grove won with a score of 88 points and Green Forest finished 25th, scoring 818 points. Jorja Bessonett won with a time of 19 minutes and 42 seconds. Green Forest's Lucy Rios finished 96th in 23:17, while teammates Emily Bolen finished 165th in 24:16 and Lyndsay Anglin finished 181st in 24:30. Green Forest's Yaritza Quintanilla finished 268th in 25:54, while teammate Jennifer Martinez finished 276th in 26:05 and Savannah Reeves finished 327th in 26:58. Margarita Vega finished 365th in 27:49 and Alyson Bruegal finished 533rd in 34:14.
Varsity Girls: Keller High won with a score of 50 points and Berryville finished 68th, scoring 2,115 points. Victoria Findley of Blue Springs South High School won with a time of 17 minutes and 40 seconds. Berryville's Alexis Steele finished 403rd in 23:42, while teammates Sarah Hale finished 489th in 25:47 and Raquel Perez finished 516th in 27:11. Berryville's Trinity Rains finished 521st in 27:45 and teammate Hannah Stewart finished 531st in 29:08.
