Area cross country runners tackle Elkins course
All three Carroll County schools competed at the Elkins Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. The Green Forest boys and girls each won the 1A-3A race. Green Forest's Rafael Rosales won the boys race with a time of 16 minutes and 54 seconds and Karina Maravillas won the girls race in 19:39. Berryville won the girls 4A-5A race. Individual results are as follows:
1A-3A Boys: Green Forest won, scoring 32 points and Eureka Springs finished third at 74 points. To go along with Rosales' win, Lexington Hilton finished third in 17:14 and Eureka Springs' Kayden Eckman finished fourth in 17:27. Green Forest's Ezequiel Calderon finished fifth in 17:36, while Eureka Springs' Tyler Stephenson finished seventh in 18:48 and Tono Mendez finished ninth in 19:08. Green Forest's Urbano Reyes finished 15th in 19:37, while Dalron Arnold of Eureka Springs finished 16th in 19:54 and Garrett Cross finished 21st in 20:18. Green Forest's David Aguinaga finished 29th in 21:16, while Eureka Springs' Austin Maloney finished 31st in 21:59 and Levi Crider finished 34th in 22:09. Green Forest's Kevin Solorzano finished 36th in 22:57, while teammate Eli Gomez finished 37th in 22:58 and Eureka Springs' Sam Gay finished 39th in 23:39. Eureka Springs' Jackson Cross finished 43rd in 24:05, while teammates Hayden Bullock finished 45th in 26:33 and Grant Arnold finished 46th in 26:37.
1A-3A Girls: Green Forest won, scoring 18 points. Eureka Springs didn't have enough girls to form a team, but Gabi Bloch finished second in 20:54. Green Forest's Viannei Rangel finished fourth in 21:50, while teammates Lucy Rios finished sixth in 22:34 and Jennifer Martinez finished seventh in 22:35. Green Forest's Yaritza Quintanilla finished ninth in 23:02, while teammate Lyndsay Anglin finished 13th in 23:34 and Eureka Springs' Ana Tapia finished 16th in 25:20. Green Forest's Margarita Vega finished 18th in 25:37, while teammates Andrea Lopez finished 22nd in 26:16 and Alyson Bruegel finished 25th in 28:35. Rachel Adams finished 27th in 30:02.
4A-5A Boys: Huntsville won, scoring 44 points and Berryville finished third scoring 62 points. Huntsville's Tanner Barbee won with a time of 17:35. Berryville's Carlos Garduno finished 10th in 18:26, while teammates Daniel Portillo finished 14th in 18:42 and Brian Tovar finished 15th in 18:43. Berryville's Nathan Engel finished 18th in 18:51, while teammates Eduardo Rangel finished 19th in 18:54 and Grant Lee finished 39th in 20:48.
4A-5A Girls: Berryville won, scoring 47 points. Prairie Grove's Bekah Bostian won with a time of 19:33, while Berryville's Samantha Preston finished ninth in 22:41 and Cecilia Doss finished 10th at 22:49. Berryville's Nora Waller finished 12th in 22:54, while teammates Alexis Steele finished 13th in 22:55 and Sarah Hale finished 20th in 24:24. Berryville's Alejandra Hernandez finished 25th in 25:09, while teammates Hope Braziel finished 31st in 25:38 and Trinity Rains finished 44th in 28:22. Berryville's Hannah Stewart finished 48th in 28:58, while teammates Claira Watson finished 50th in 29:32 and Chanci Walker finished 57th in 35:48.
On Saturday, all three schools will travel to Siloam Springs.
