IVALEE (ASBURY) SIMPSON, of Green Forest, Arkansas was born September 1, 1923 in Omaha, Arkansas, daughter of Jody and Ruby (Molder) Asbury. She departed this life Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Rogers, Arkansas at the age of 93 years.

IvaLee started school near Cardin, Oklahoma where her daddy worked in the lead and zinc mines. The family moved to Arkansas in 1938 into the Farewell Community. She attended School of the Ozarks at Point Lookout, Missouri in 1939-1940. IvaLee was saved at the age of seventeen in a revival at the Head Schoolhouse and baptized in Long Creek in the Denver Community. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Green Forest.

During the first years of marriage, IvaLee traveled with Tillman as a pipe-liners wife until they bought the service station on what became known as “Simpson Corner” in Green Forest. From that time on she worked side by side with Tillman in the Outboard Motor business or cleaning up their mountain-top farm.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Dodd of Rogers, Arkansas; brother, Kenneth Asbury and wife, Bonnie of Green Forest; two sisters, Wanda Irvin of Hillsboro, Illinois and Shirley Shinnebarger and husband, Charles, of Walnut Shade, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kelly Howerton and wife, Suzette of Green Forest; Roger Howerton of Dallas, Texas; Shannon Cheesbro and husband, Mark of Wylie, Texas; Shane Dodd and wife, Liza of Green River, Wyoming; ten great-grandchildren: Nikki Long, Courtney and Anthony Dickinson, Kaleb and Normandy Howerton, Katie and Matt Swofford, Kyle Howerton, Misty and Kenneth Hill, Derik and Krystle Vaughan, Tim, Nina and Adam Dodd; eight great-great-grandchildren: Addyson, Colton, Cheyenne, Joshua, Riley, Ava, Baylor and Stetson; numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.

On November 24, 1942, she was united in marriage with John Tillman Simpson for seventy-one years, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Jody and Ruby (Molder) Asbury; daughter, Joyce Howerton; two sisters, Ethel Gardner and Sharon Hammonds; three brothers, Roy Asbury, William Lloyd Asbury and Richard Joe Asbury.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Nelson’s Green Forest Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Green Forest United Baptist Church with Reverends Jerry Spurlock and Kenneth Asbury officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Farewell Cemetery, Green Forest, Arkansas under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
