CC title highlights Tigers' sports year
It was another good year for the Green Forest Tiger athletic program. It was highlighted by another Class 3A state championship for the boys cross country team.
Patrick Hunter, Gabriel Ramos and Rafael Rosales each made all-state. The Lady Tigers finished second and Karina Maravillas made all-state. The Green Forest volleyball team also made the state tournament. Carolina Moreno was also an all-state player. The Green Forest golf team didn't have enough players to compete for a team championship, but Ashley Farrar and Rubi Perez each qualified for the state tournament. The Green Forest football team finished 2-8. Matt Owens threw a last-second touchdown pass to Michael Blach to defeat Marshall 14-8. Cory Bryant led the team in rushing with 573 yards and Rhett Powell had 489 yards on the ground. Creel Roberts led the team in tackles with 113.
The Green Forest boys basketball team finished 4-24. Rhett Powell averaged 14.1 points per game (PPG) and David Nelson averaged 8.7 PPG. Luis Lopez averaged 6.7 rebounds per game (RPG). The Lady Tigers finished 6-23, but won a conference game against Flippin. Farrar averaged 14.3 PPG and Kelsey Phillips averaged 8.2 RPG.
The Green Forest soccer team finished 10-6, including a victory over Berryville. The Tigers made it back to the state tournament. Huvense Rivas scored 27 goals and Jose Hernandez led the team with 27 assists. Carlos Herrate finished with 118 steals. Rhett Williamson, Jose Lozano, Bryant and Hunter all qualified for the boys 3A state track meet. Lexey Williams, Alissa Smith, Kassidy Bell, Jennifer Martinez and Maravillas all qualified for the girls state track meet. In baseball, Nelson, Andrew Guzman and Trey Curbow led the Tigers to wins over Marshall and Yellville-Summit. The Lady Tiger softball team swept Marshall and defeated Marshall. Sloane Coffey, Trinity McMahan and freshmen Kiara Taylor helped lead Green Forest to these victories.
