GF, BV host Anstaff tourney
The Anstaff Bank Baseball Tournament starts on Thursday. Berryville and Green Forest will co-host the event. Teams from Valley Springs, Pea Ridge, Lead Hill and Alpena will be in attendance. There is a 90-minute time limit for each game and each at bat starts with a 2-1 count.
"We start with the 2-1 count, so right off the bat your pitchers have to pitch strikes and everyone has to stay engaged in the game because it moves so fast," Green Forest coach Tony Coffey said. "It's an hour and a half time limit. By doing it that way, hopefully I put all of my players in a high-stress situation and see how they perform from it."
On Thursday, the action will take place in Berryville. Valley Springs plays the Pea Ridge JV at 5 p.m. and Berryville plays Valley Springs at 7 p.m. On Friday, the tournament moves to Green Forest. At 5 p.m., Green Forest plays Lead Hill and Alpena will play Green Forest at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Alpena will play Lead Hill in Green Forest and Berryville will play the Pea Ridge JV. Both games will start at 10 a.m. Later that afternoon, teams will play for first-, second- and third-place trophies.
Admission is free for students and $3 for adults.
