ETHEL JANE MEYER, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born February 9, 1926 in Springfield, Missouri, daughter of Rev. L.W. and Daisy (Wells) Caldwell. She departed this life Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 90 years.
While she was still an infant the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she attended elementary school. In 1938 the family moved back to Springfield, MO. where she graduated from Central High School in May, 1944.
On August 17, 1944 she was united in marriage to Sgt. Walter L. Meyer from Jim Falls, Wisconsin. Following his return from the war they lived in Wisconsin for five years until moving to Minnesota where they operated a garage and filling station. During the next fourteen years Ethel worked as a dental assistant. In 1965 she was hired to set up a dental assistant course at the Hibbing Area Technical Institute in Hibbing, MN. They sold their garage/filling station and moved to Hibbing where Walter worked as the truck mechanic for Ford-Lincoln garage. Ethel continued her work at the Technical Institute for twenty-three years as the Head Tutor and Program Coordinator.
Upon retirement in 1988, Walter and Ethel moved twelve miles south of Berryville. Five days before their 54th anniversary, Walter died and later Ethel moved to Berryville. She volunteered with the Carroll County Literacy Council and served at President for 19 years. In addition her love of teaching, she also enjoyed needlepoint, photographing flowers, camping, and her work through her church. Ethel was a member of the Berryville United Methodist Church and served as the church financial secretary. She loved the church and attended faithfully until three weeks before her death.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, and her sister, Lorene Mitchell. She is survived by sister-in-law Wendy, nephew Ben, niece Marjorie, and her church family and many friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Berryville United Methodist Church in Berryville, Arkansas with Pastor Andy Hughes officiating.
