Freida Mae Tharp, age 86, of Green Forest, AR passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017. She was born July 29, 1930 in Green Forest, daughter of Hubert and Novella (Anderson) VanWinkle.
Frieda was a graduate of Green Forest High School, class of 1950. On November 4, 1962 she married the love of her life, Rex Tharp.
She owned and operated " Freida's Beauty Shop" in Green Forest for a number of years and later worked at Glick Garment Factory, the phone Company in Berryville and Traffic Safety in Green Forest. In later years she worked as a cook at Harp's Bakery in Green Forest where she retired only a few years ago.
Frieda was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her gentle spirit was generously shared with all around her and her happiest times were spent serving and helping those in need. She enjoyed hard work, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rex Tharp of the home, one daughter, Rexalyn Tyer and husband John of Clinton, AR, grandson, John Tyer of Choctaw, OK, granddaughter, Kara Tyer of Clinton, brothers, Arlyn VanWinkle of Raytown, MO, Virgil VanWinkle of Green Forest and Dale VanWinkle and wife Frances of Oak Grove and a number of other family and friends.
Freida is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Novella VanWinkle and sisters-in-law, Carthel VanWinkle and Betty VanWinkle.
Celebration Of Life Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2017 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Berryville with Brother Wayne Writer and Brother Craig Villines officiating. Interment will follow at Pickins Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest.
