Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Dora Lee Minick Ferguson departed this life on December 22, 2016, at home with her family at her side. Dora began her life journey on June 7, 1935. She loved to tell of the events of that day when she was born to Charley and Ollie (Williams) Minick in Ramona, Oklahoma.

Her parents taught her at an early age to work hard and play hard. She had many great stories of how her and her siblings would find ways to amuse themselves after long days of working in the fields or milking the cows. She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her four siblings, Dixie Stewart of Berryville; Carl Minick of Overland Park, Kansas; Doris Padgett of Fort Worth, Texas; and Lula Gott of Berryville.

Dora, or Dorie as she was fondly called, was a 1952 graduate of Berryville High School and an avid supporter of the Berryville Alumni Association and the Berryville Bobcats. She worked over 30 years for the Berryville School District as a bus driver and library aide. She received the Charley Matney sportsmanship award in 2006 as well as the Berryville Alumni Hall of Fame award in 2005. She loved working with young people, opening her home and heart to many teenagers over the years. She attended Antioch Church of God where she taught Sunday School, loved to play the piano and sing praises to the Lord. Dora Lee was also very well known for baking pies and making wackys for others.

Dora Lee was united in marriage to WA Ferguson Jr. They had three children who survive her; Linda Winkle and husband, Steve, of Green Forest; Tommy Ferguson and wife, Kim, of Berryville; and Carla Weaver and husband, Chip, of Berryville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Winkle and wife, Jennifer, Blake Winkle & Rikki Johnson, Allison Winkle, Arel Ferguson and Tate Ferguson. She has three great-grandchildren, Asher, Olivia, and Raelynn Winkle. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of "wacky" fans. Grandma Dorie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all.
