The Arkansas State Highway Commission will start work on two separate projects in Carroll County this fall.

The commission has approved two bids for improvements to roadways in Carroll County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

A press release from AHTD says that one project will replace a bridge over Freeman Branch on State Highway 221 in Carroll County.

Crouse Construction Company of Harrison was awarded the contract at $781,444.08, the release says. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2017, the release says.

The second project will widen approximately 3.7 miles of U.S. Highway 62 west of Alpena from two lanes to five lanes starting at County Road 914 and extending westward, the release says.

The release says that Nabholz Construction Corporation of Rogers was awarded the contract at $17,804,173.30. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting and is expected to be completed in mid-2018.
