Lady Tigers get better from Slamfest
On Saturday, the Green Forest Lady Tiger volleyball team competed at Harrison's Slamfest Tournament. They competed in three matches and went 1-2. The Lady Tigers started with a match against Yellville-Summit. They lost in two sets, 14-25, 18-25. Carolina Moreno had three kills for the Lady Tigers and Maressa Hernandez had 15 digs.
"We just had a hard time breaking the serve," Green Forest coach Trista Killingsworth said.
Green Forest's next opponent was Bergman. The Lady Tigers lost that match 17-25, 10-25. Cheyann Eagleson had two kills and Hernandez led the Lady Tigers with 16 digs.
The final match of the day for Green Forest came against Elkins. The Lady Tigers won 25-16, 25-19. Moreno had four kills, while Sloane Coffey had 16 digs and Audrey Dickinson had 14. Even though the Lady Tigers lost two of their three matches, Killingsworth feels like they were able to get better from this experience.
"It was good to end on a good note," Killingsworth said. "It would have been easy to not show up for that third match, but we did. We had some more hits. Carolina had four kills, but then Lauren Newberry had two and Sloane Coffey had two. It was good to see us hitting harder in that match."
Killingsworth hopes that playing three matches in one day will be beneficial for the Lady Tigers moving forward.
"Even though we lost those first two matches, they were ready to play the entire time," Killingsworth said. "If you sit at home, you don't play tournaments, then you aren't going to get better. We are on a quest to move forward and get better."
On Monday, Green Forest traveled to Valley Springs.
