BV, GF volleyball teams on a roll
The Berryville Lady Bobcat volleyball team has had four matches thus far and the Lady Bobcats have won each match in straight sets. The latest straight-set victory came on Thursday at home against the Alpena Lady Leopards. The streak was in jeopardy of coming to an end early in the first set, however. Berryville faced a 9-18 deficit, but fought back to win the set and cruised to win the final sets.
"We came out kind of dead-legged, but it's very encouraging seeing them fight to not give up," Berryville coach Kristin Whetham said. "At the same time, coming out like that against a team in our 4A district tournament, we are going to see teams that if we play like that in the beginning, we might not be able to fight our way back into it. I would like to see a little more improvement in terms of the way we start games."
Whetham complimented sophomore Kelcee Hopper for being one of the Lady Bobcats who helped lead the charge to come from behind and win that first set.
"She comes in and plays the front row middle," Whetham said. "The first couple of games she came out and was a little bit timid, which is normal for a sophomore, but the last couple of games she has played really well."
On Thursday, the Lady Bobcats (4-0) will host Green Forest.
Green Forest 3, Eureka Springs 0
Green Forest took care of Eureka Springs at home on Thursday with a dominating 25-9, 25-10, 25-14 victory. There were plenty of aces to be had in the three-set victory. Green Forest's Sloane Coffey and Cheyann Eagleson each had three. Rachel Evans added another. Carolina Moreno, Lauren Newberry and Evans added three more in the second set. Jennifer Newberry, Moreno and Evans each had two in the final set. Audrey Dickinson finished the game with 11 digs and Evans had four aces. On Thursday, Green Forest will travel to Berryville and the Lady Highlanders host Pea Ridge.
