William Starlin Chaney passed from this life to his eternal home Aug. 15, 2016. He was born to Clint and Oma (Miller) Chaney on Oct. 1, 1934 in Tanyard Hollar (Carroll County) and remained a life-long resident of Carroll County.
Starlin farmed all of his life raising beef cattle and broilers for Tysons. He worked for Green Forest Tysons for many years.
He loved to deer hunt, trap and ride the "wheeler". He liked to take his time (smoke a cigarette and tell a story) as he did any job. He always had a story to tell and he loved to tell about days gone by. Some favorite stories were about how he learned to love "runny eggs" while in basic training at Fort Chaffee and learning to trap from his grandma Alice. He had a strong opinion about politics or anything else for that matter.
Starlin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Fern Chaney, of the home; son, William Chaney Jr. of Green Forest; daughters, Tammy Swofford (Larry) of Oak Grove, Rhonda Hatfield (Alan Hoos) of Green Forest, Belinda Harp of Fayetteville, Misti Rincon (Cesar) of Green Forest, Sherry Jones (Jimmy) of Green Forest; grandchildren, William Chaney III, Johnny Straw, Brittney Kirkland (Brent), Clint Harp, Heath Harp, Mariah, Coby and Jacob Rincon, Matt Swofford (Kate), Heather Howard (Steve), Lacie Hudgins (Travis), seven soon to be eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and in-laws, Willis and Virgie Fitchue; brother, R.C. Chaney and a number of brother and sisters-in-law.
Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 a Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Pastor Billy Burris officiating. Interment will be at Rule Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17th at the funeral home.
