Bobcats search for new athletic director

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The Berryville School District is in search of a new athletic director after John McClellan resigned the position to become principal at Berryville Middle School.

Superintendent Owen Powell said boys basketball coach Brent Compton, football coach Austin Winters, baseball coach David Broseus and high school biology teacher Charlie Crowder, a former coach, have all applied thus far. Powell said the position will be filled by someone currently employed by the Berryville school system.

"We aren't opening it up to people outside the district because it isn't going to be a full-time position," Powell said.

Powell said there is no time frame on naming the next athletic director, but he would like to hire someone within the next month.

"We are probably going to take applications for another week or two and then we will start interviews," Powell said. "Hopefully we will have somebody to name at the next school board meeting. That's the goal."

McClellan will remain the athletic director until his contract runs out on June 30.
