BV starts summer baseball team
Members of the Berryville baseball team, 2015 Berryville graduate Tate Ferguson, Berryville softball player Allie Ashford and Green Forest's David Nelson have formed a Babe Ruth baseball league. They play two games on Wednesday and Sunday nights. So far, they are 4-1-1. Berryville started last Sunday against Fayetteville White River.
Berryville 3, Fayetteville White River 3
Down a run going into the top of the sixth last Sunday, Berryville's Austin Woods started the inning with a double to left. Woods advanced to third on an error by the catcher and stole home to tie the game. After Fayetteville White River was held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, neither team got on base in the seventh inning, thus ending the game in a tie.
After a scoreless first for Berryville, Fayetteville White River struck in the bottom of the inning with one run on a single to left. Berryville responded in the top of the third. With runners on the corners, Cody Hubbard scored on a passed ball. Woods was walked with the bases loaded to take a 2-1 lead. Fayetteville White River tied the game at 2-2 on a line drive single to center. They added another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead going into the sixth inning.
Davis Stone had two hits and Tate Ferguson pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out seven.
Berryville 5, Fayetteville White River 4
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, an Austin Woods ground ball to second scored Ethan Gregory and Chay Myers. Fayetteville White River failed to get a runner on base in the top of the sixth, ending the game.
Fayetteville White River got out to a good start in the top of the first. They scored one run on a double to center and another on a Berryville error. Berryville took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first. Davis Stone scored on a Fayetteville White River error. A Robby Broseus triple scored Woods. Tate Ferguson reached base on a fielder's choice. That scored Broseus. Fayetteville White River added a run in the fourth and fifth inning. To start the bottom of the fifth, Ethan Gregory was walked and Myers and Stone each had singles to load the bases.
Stone and Woods each had three hits.
Berryville 9, Fayetteville 4
Fayetteville scored a run in the top of the first Wednesday night, but things went slowly downhill after that. As the home team, Berryville came out swinging in the bottom of the inning. Davis Stone, Robby Broseus and Austin Woods all scored on errors by Fayetteville errors, making it 3-1. Broseus hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third and a Chay Myers bunt scored Woods, making it 6-2. David Nelson's ground ball to center scored Tate Ferguson and Myers. Cody Hubbard's single to right scored Nelson to make it 9-3.
Myers had two hits and an RBI.
Berryville 14, Fayetteville 4
In the second game of the doubleheader, Berryville's Zach Jones started the top of the second with a fly ball to right. He scored on a passed ball. Cody Hubbard's double to right scored David Nelson and Tate Ferguson. Berryville added seven more runs in the top of the fourth. Keaton Lofgren's single to right scored Chay Myers. Hubbard's line drive to center scored Lofgren. Ethan Gregory's single scored Hubbard, making it 6-0. A Robby Broseus single scored Gregory. An Austin Woods ground ball scored Davis Stone and Broseus. A Jones groundball to right scored Woods, making it 10-0.
In the top of the fifth, Nelson's fly ball to center scored Myers and Lofgren. Nelson scored on a Fayetteville error. A Robby Broseus triple to right scored Gregory. Fayetteville scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Broseus had four hits, while Jones, Hubbard and Gregory all had two.
Berryville 4, Gentry 3
In Berryville's home win on Sunday, both offenses got off to hot starts before cooling off. Gentry scored two runs in the top of the first, before Berryville answered with three in the bottom of the inning. A Robby Broseus double to left scored Davis Stone. A Gentry error scored Broseus. Chay Myers' double to left scored Zach Jones, making it 3-2 going into the second inning. David Nelson added a run for Berryville in the bottom of the fourth. The Pioneers scored a run in the top of the sixth, but consecutive outs ended the game.
Myers had a hit and an RBI, while Broseus pitched a complete game, striking out eight.
Gentry 6, Berryville 3
Berryville got out to an early lead in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, but was unable to hang onto the lead. An Austin Woods single to right in the top of the first scored Robby Broseus. Tate Ferguson's fly ball to center scored Woods. Gentry scored four runs in the bottom of the third, though. They added another in the fourth inning. A Broseus single to right scored Cody Hubbard, cutting the lead to 5-3. Gentry made it 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth and Berryville failed to get a runner on base in the top of the sixth, ending the game.
Robby Broseus and Austin Woods each had two hits and an RBI. On Wednesday, Berryville travels to Pea Ridge. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
