Extension office plans livestock clinic

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

The Carroll County Extension Office will host a clinic for livestock exhibitors in April.

The clinic is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Carroll County Fairgrounds Arena. Arvest Bank will provide dinner.

Carroll County Extension Agent Olivia Foster said the clinic is aimed to show the young people how showing livestock can help them. Foster remembered showing livestock in high school and said that is a big reason why she works in agriculture today.

"It taught me tons. It showed me how to be responsible. It taught me work ethic. It taught me so many things that have allowed me to be successful," Foster said.

Showing livestock, she continued, introduced her to livestock judging. Foster said livestock judging helped her acquire scholarships for college.

"It paid for my college education," Foster said.

She encouraged anyone interested in showing livestock to attend the clinic, saying speakers will be brought in from the University of Arkansas.

"It will help you improve what you already have going or help you start something new. It's open to anyone who's showing livestock or interested," Foster said.

If you're interested in attending the clinic, call the extension office at 870-423-4802.
