Tyson Berryville-Green Forest complex celebrates milestone in fight against cancer

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

Cancer affects millions of people all over the world, but the fight to stop this deadly disease begins here at home. Carroll County has hosted the American Cancer Society's Relay For LifeŽ event since the 1990s and Tyson Foods' Berryville-Green Forest Complex has proudly participated from the beginning.

"At Tyson Foods, we strive to make a difference in our communities every day," said Linda Vale, a Tyson Foods team member and Berryville team captain. "And we're proud of our involvement in Relay For Life, as we partner with our friends and neighbors to help wipe out cancer for good."

Vale played a vital role in establishing a Relay For Life event in Carroll County and together with Co-Captain Becky Palmer, has taken fundraising to the next level. Since 2007, the Berryville-Green Forest teams raised more than $500,000 in the fight against cancer and have been the top fundraising team in Arkansas for the past five years. In 2015, the Tyson Foods team raised $100,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS), which provided 1,000 free nights of lodging to those who needed cancer treatment away from their hometowns. As a result, Carroll County became the No. 1 Relay For Life per-capita event in the country for 2015.

Contributing to worthy efforts is an important part of Tyson Foods' culture, whether it's here at home, across the nation or around the globe. The fundraising efforts for ACS allow the organization to further its mission of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
