Area track athletes show they can compete for titles

Track season is under way, and for many Carroll County athletes, it appears 2016 will be a promising one.

On the boys side, Green Forest's Dalton Anglin, Nathaniel Harp and Cory Bryant all finished in the top 10 of the 100-meter dash at the most recent track meet held in Green Forest. Anglin and teammate Matthew Hansen have finished in the top 10 of the 200-meter dash this season. Jacob Thompson has won the 400-meter dash while Dalton Arnold of Eureka Springs and Ethan King of Berryville have each finished in the top 10. Berryville's Oliver Perez and Jonathon Wood finished in the top five of the 800-meter run earlier this season. Green Forest's Gabriel Ramos and Patrick Hunter have had top-five finishes in the 1,600 meter run. Ramos has finished third in the 3,200-meter run while Berryville's Andrew Galicia has had a fourth-place finish. Hunter has finished fifth. Green Forest's Trace DeLozier and his teammate Bryant have had top-four finishes in the 110-meter hurdles. DeLozier and Ramos have each had top-five finishes in the 300-meter hurdles. Green Forest has finished second in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays this season. Berryville finished second in the 4x800 meter relay at Green Forest.

Berryville's Miguel Martinez has won the discus throw and finished second in the shot put. DeLozier has had a third-place finish in the pole vault. Green Forest's Ashley Henley has had a fourth -place finish in the high jump, while teammate Tristan Snyder has a sixth-place finish and Berryville's Timmond Turner has finished ninth.

On the girls side, Berryville's Juanita Vilatoro has finished third in the 100-meter dash, while Jennifer Newberry of Green Forest has a season-best finish of fourth. Vilatoro has finished fourth in the 200-meter dash while Nicole Morrison of Eureka Springs has finished fifth and Newberry has finished seventh. Green Forest's Laralyn Koster and teammate Carolina Moreno each have top-10 finishes in the 400 meter dash. Gabi Bloch of Eureka Springs has finished fourth in the 800-meter run and Berryville's Samantha Preston has finished sixth. Bloch has finished second in the 1,600-meter run and Preston finished seventh. Green Forest's Belinda Pineda and teammate Yolanda De Los Santos each have top-10 finishes in the 3,200-meter run. Green Forest's Carley Chicas has finished third in the 100-meter hurdles while Morrison finished fifth and Newberry finished sixth. Morrison and Chicas have each had top-five finishes in the 300 meter hurdles. Green Forest has a third-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay and a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. Berryville has finished third in the 4x800 meter relay.

Green Forest's Kelby Harness has won the discus throw and shot put. Morrison has won the high jump competition and Chicas has finished third. Morrison has a second-place finish in the long jump and Newberry has finished fifth. Newberry has won the triple jump and Vilatoro finished third.
