Record gets gold, Bobcats finish 4th at state

LITTLE ROCK -- The Berryville Bobcat wrestling team didn't bring home a state title Saturday night like they had hoped, but Garrett Record brought home a first-place medal.

"It makes me feel great," Record said. "I had it in my mind all weekend that I was going to pin everybody in the first period and then it happened."

His father, assistant coach Seth Record, is extremely proud of what his son was able to accomplish.

"This is my 24th year in wrestling and I think we have 16 or 17 state titles at my house," Seth Record said. "That's our first high school title and that's definitely the pinnacle. I haven't came off that cloud yet. It is real special."

As a team, the Bobcats finished fourth, scoring 202.5 points, while Greenbrier finished first at 277. While the Bobcats didn't finish how they wanted to, Seth Record is proud of how the Bobcats competed.

"We placed more kids than we ever have and placed higher than we ever have," Seth Record said. "We had seven guys in the finals for Berryville and that's outstanding."

Along with Garrett Record's first place medal, Noah Forke, Ethan King, Keaton Hoft and Christian Lemus all placed second. Blaine Nelson and Kris Grile each placed fourth while Robert Allen placed fifth and Kole Disheroon placed sixth.

Individual results are as follows:

106: Noah Forke pinned Zaemiear Palmer of Little Rock McClellan in the round of 16. In Forke's quarterfinal match, he pinned Jackson Landers of Little Rock Christian Academy. In his semifinal match, he defeated Destiny Nunez of Beebe, 8-3. In the finals, Forke lost 18-9 to Javonta Jenkins of Maumelle.

113: Blaiane Nelson pinned Chris Woolery in the quarterfinals. Jaden Webb defeated Nelson 13-12 in the semifinals. In the consolation championship, Rhett Womack of Arkadelphia beat Nelson by technical fall.

120: Kole Disheroon lost to Bradley Switzer of Pulaski Academy in the quarterfinals. In his first round consolation match, Disheroon pinned Aeron Riggs. In his second-round consolation match, Disheroon lost to Terry Glass of Little Rock McClellan.

132: Ethan King beat Beebe's Justin Jackson by technical fall in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, King pinned Korie Northern of Little Rock McClellan. In the championship, King lost to Rylan Howard of Greenbrier, 7-0.

138: Joseph Toring lost to Aaron Hurlbut of Little Rock Christian Academy in his first round match. He lost his consolation match to Alexander Williams of Little Rock McClellan.

145: Keaton Hoft defeated Will Pittman, 8-2 in his first-round match. He defeated Karler Warner 4-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Hoft defeated Austin Baker of Pulaski Academy, 5-2. In the championship match, he lost to Kevin Knox of Little Rock Christian Academy.

152: Kris Grile won his first round match by forfeit. Grile pinned Will Callhoun in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Grile lost to Wandell Wright of Maumelle, 13-4. In his first consolation match, Grile defeated Jason Smith of Pulaski Academy, 7-2. In the consolation championship, Grile lost 18-11 toJoseph Lewis of Little Rock McClellan.

160: Christian Lemus won his first-round match over Konner Hodges by pin. He won his quarterfinal match over Greenbrier's Caleb Price, 13-9. In his semifinal match, Lemus pinned Shane Almond of CAC. He was pinned in the championship by James Noel of Pulaski Academy.

170: Griffin Payne won his first-round match over Alex Stewart by way of pin. He lost his quarterfinal match to Little Rock McClellan's Adrian Brown. In Payne's first consolation match, he pinned Little Rock Christian Academy's William Rowen. He lost his second consolation match to Garrett Grier of Greenbrier.

182: Robert Allen pinned Seth Anderson of Bismarck in his first round match. In the quarterfinals, Allen lost 14-6 to Grayson Powell of Greenbrier. In Allen's first consolation match, he won by pin. He won his second consolation match 11-4. He won the consolation championship by pin.

195: Luis Klaus lost his first-round match to Deandre Darrough of Little Rock McClellan. He won his first consolation match by pinning Lance Spurlock of Bismarck. He lost his second consolation match to Zane Young of Greenbrier.

220: Jackson Wilbanks was pinned in the first round by Michael Kelly of Hot Springs. He won his first consolation match by pin. He lost his second consolation match by pin.

285: Garrett Record won his quarterfinal match by pinning Kyle Whittle of Arkadelphia. He won his semifinal match by pinning Allen Amuimuia of Pulaski Academy. He won the championship by pinning Javorine Eugene of Little Rock McClellan.
