BV students celebrate Valentine's Day at Carroll County Senior Center
The seniors who ate lunch at the Carroll County Senior Activity and Wellness Center on Thursday had a Valentine's Day treat.
Berryville EAST Lab students surprised the seniors with handmade Valentine's cards and goodie bags containing various candy. Junior Alondra Miranda said she initially wanted to do something similar for Christmas but decided to wait until Valentine's Day instead.
The cards, Miranda noted, were created by Berryville fourth-graders. Junior Kevin Orellana said his group had planned for the fourth-graders to hand out the cards, too. A scheduling conflict, Orellana explained, prevented that from happening.
"But still, we're here to give out the cards," Orellana said.
Orellana said he wanted to give the seniors gifts to make them feel special.
"We want them to know we remember them. I want to make them smile," Orellana said.
Miranda agreed, saying she was excited about interacting with the seniors.
"I want to get to know them as well," Miranda said.
Carla Mann, director of the center, thanked the students for giving the seniors gifts.
"I know they're really grateful to receive these gifts today," Mann said.
This isn't the first time students at the Berryville School District have come to the senior center. Mann said Berryville Intermediate School students visited the center last year to perform music.
"We love the intergenerational things we can do with the school," Mann said. "I think it's very important for the seniors to know their community cares about them and to see the children active in the center."
