Tigers struggle to score in first round

The Detroit Lions football team made four field goals Sunday afternoon. That was the same number of field goals the Green Forest Tiger basketball team made during Monday evening's 60-17 loss to Monett, Mo.

The Cubs got out to a commanding lead early, leading 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. David Nelson scored Green Forest's first basket of the game with three minutes remaining in the first half and Ashley Henley added another basket in the closing seconds. The Cubs led 39-7 going into halftime.

Cory Bryant, Austin Pruitt and Nelson all made baskets in the second half. The Tigers play Pocahontas in the second round of the Cornerstone Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament.

Pocahontas 50, Green Forest 12

The Lady Redskins got out to an early lead and never looked back. Three three-pointers by Kate Junkersfeld gave the Lady Redskins an 18-2 lead going into the second quarter and a 15-5 run going into halftime gave Pocahontas a 33-7 halftime lead. Katie Byers made both baskets for the Lady Tigers in the first half. The Lady Redskins extended the lead to 44-11 heading into the final quarter.

Byers led the Lady Tigers with five points and Kelsey Phillips had three. The Lady Tigers play Bergman in the second round of the Cornerstone Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament.
