Plenty of talent in BV Tournament
It doesn't matter if you are a fan or Green Forest or Berryville. As long as you are a basketball fan, Bobcat Arena is the place to be starting on Monday for the Cornerstone Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament. Valley Springs' boys and girls both played in the Class 3A state tournament last year, with the Lady Tigers making it all the way to the championship game. The Pocahontas Lady Redskins made an appearance in the Class 4A state tournament. The Bergman Lady Panthers reached the Class 3A state tournament, as did the Hector Lady Wildcats in the Class 2A state tournament.
"I think it's a wonderful field on the girls side," Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said. "I mean you're talking about Valley Springs, who is one of the best teams in 3A. They made the state finals last year and that is probably their expectation this year with them returning pretty much everybody. Then you have a Pocahontas team that is really good and they return almost everything from last year. Then you have Bergman who is very solid. Of course Hector, Bald Knob, White County Central, Green Forest, too. It's just from top to bottom a lot of quality teams."
Just because there are fewer state tournament teams on the boys bracket doesn't mean there won't be plenty of competition.
"Our tournament is kind of like a regional or state tournament atmosphere just because of the different teams we have and the quality competition," Berryville coach Brent Compton said.
Teams in the boys bracket are Berryville, Bergman, Valley Springs, Hector, White County Central, Pocahontas and Monett (Mo.) and Green Forest.
Teams in the girls bracket are Berryville, Bergman, Valley Springs, Pocahontas, Hector, Bald Knob, White County Central and Green Forest.
There will be eight games each day starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bobcat Arena.
Last year, Valley Springs won the girls bracket and Pocahontas was the boys champion.
